Thanks for the POV, Forrest :)

Hmmm........
I suppose since the companies (SEO Experts), in this case, actually know what they're doing *is wrong*.

I guess I'd say it's the customers responsibility to do some research and actually *know* what services they're purchasing, in which I agree with your point there.

Honestly though, I haven't seen Shrek (Yeah, I know, sounds insane), so I'm not quite sure about the comparisons you made at the end there ;)

It's a tough call. I guess I'd say the people who hire a typical seo "expert," although they're maybe less to blame. Generally in business if somebody charges you to do something, and then doesn't do it, this is fraud. This kind of law means people have the idea that they can generally trust companies at least not to outright lie to them.

The firms themselves are exploiting that trust; they're serving kool aid. The client thinks that for $350 they'll become an internet millionaire ... this is the kind of suspension of disbelief that usually goes with a Shrek movie, but, that sounds like kool aid. Maybe a bit of a mix between the Jim Jones and Ken Kesey kinds?
