So there I was, playing in the middle of KOTOR 2 on my Xbox 360, and everything’s going fine. Then I turn the machine off for a few minutes to take a break and go to the bathroom. I return to continue my game and then proceed to turn on the system, and guess what happens?

I get the Fucking Red Ring of Death!!! Again!

The console wasn’t moving, it wasn’t overheating, and the power supply box (nor the system itself) wasn’t even on the ground. It came out of nowhere.

For the few years I’ve owned a 360, I’ve gotten this error Three Damn Times! And each time it had to be repackaged and sent back to Microsoft for a few hundred dollars. As if those greedy bastards didn’t make enough money off of just hardware and software sales alone, they had the gull to charge customers for repairs. Sure they may have offered an extended warranty for now, but then they retracted it, assholes.

Every time I see those smarmy lights flashing at me, I just want to throw the system into the jaw of a Microsoft Executive. And this time is no different.

And if that wasn’t enough, I can’t even play computer games properly on my computer anymore.

Take for example, “Star Wars: Empire at War”. The game is already a few years old and I was looking forward to trying it out for awhile. I get through the copy’s installation process and am just about to launch the game, only to find out my computer doesn’t meet the correct processing requirements.

My computer has an Intel Celeron 2.7 Ghz CPU. SW: EaW requires at least a 1.0 Ghz CPU from either an Intel Pentium III or an AMD Athlon processor. Are you kidding me? The damn thing only runs on TWO Specific Processor-types? What complete bullshit!

Really? How can one of the largest computer companies in the world manufacture such shitty hardware? Or how can certain games “require specific processors”? I’m seriously considering just boycotting the industry altogether. (At least until corporations pull their heads out of their collective greedy asses and start thinking about the consumer for once.)

Bah! There’s nothing that can be done.

Yeah, that kind of pissed me off (luckily I don’t play as much as I used to).

It sucks that these corporations make BILLIONS of dollars a year, but they can’t make machinery that doesn’t last for seemingly more than a year.

I also own a Gamecube, and I’ve NEVER encountered any flashing problems, hardware failures, etc. with it. Even my N64 and old Genesis systems still work. If Nintendo and Sega can make systems that last really long, why can’t Microsoft?

Lol I think we all hate technology sometimes – it’s a wonderful thing when it works correctly, but when it doesn’t…..!

The specific hardware requirement thing is a real pain – I’ve experienced that several times when I wanted to play a really good game. Technology is both a blessing and a curse!

Too true, Dan. For some reason though, Microsoft’s technology seems to work less often than others.

Computer Requirements were one of the things that really bugged me in the old days. Needs 256 MB of RAM this, 1.3GB processor that….

I thought in the year 2008, most machines would be advanced enough to cover most games being made today, and my computer was at the point capable of playing just about every game out there.

I guess not…

I don’t want to rub it in, but I’ve had my 360 from launch (almost 4 years) and not had a single red ring of death. Think I might be just a lucky one.

Damn, that is Lucky!

I’ve heard reports that a few people have had gone through this process over 20 times! (Don’t remember where I read it though.)

I can’t believe it’s been almost four years since the 360 launched. It seems like just yesterday I was having Halo LAN Parties with a few school friends and my Dad’s pals who also enjoy the game, on the original Xbox. Where’s the time gone?

You should probably learn how to fix it yourself, it’s easy and can be done in under 20 mins minus reflow time…. but I am a PC hardware tech and looking at boards and chips is like 2nd nature to me. But agreed, it is crap they release a product that breaks so easily. And for all your ps3 fanboys out there, those break too, if not just as much MORE than xboxs, just for different reasons.
