Is 5000 some sort of Musical Achievement?
Posted by: James Lewitzke in Music, Random Question….for a song’s play count, that is.
I’ve been using iTunes for a few years now, since mid-2006, and have a wide variety of musical compositions stored within my library. I uploaded the Peter Gabriel song “Mercy Street” soon afterwords (despite the fact that iTunes says it was added in August of 2007, my collection of songs was lost due to a computer crash and registry cleaning mistake).
You can listen to the song before bed, in the car, while you finish schoolwork, or during just about any other task you can think of. For some reason though, it’s one of his lesser known songs, but being at the top of my iTunes play counter, it reigns supreme on my ‘favorites’ playlist.
Everything about this song kicks ass, from the deep lyrics to the soothing melody, you won’t be disappointed after listening to it. I’d definitely picking up the album Mercy Street is contained on, So.
And for those curious about the lyrics (or those that are just to lazy to search for them), here they are:
looking down on empty streets, all she can see
are the dreams all made solid
are the dreams all made realall of the buildings, all of those cars
were once just a dream
in somebody’s headshe pictures the broken glass, she pictures the steam
she pictures a soul
with no leak at the seamlet’s take the boat out
wait until darkness
let’s take the boat out
wait until darkness comesnowhere in the corridors of pale green and grey
nowhere in the suburbs
in the cold light of daythere in the midst of it so alive and alone
words support like bonedreaming of mercy street
wear your inside out
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy’s arms again
dreaming of mercy street
swear they moved that sign
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy’s armspulling out the papers from the drawers that slide smooth
tugging at the darkness, word upon wordconfessing all the secret things in the warm velvet box
to the priest-he’s the doctor
he can handle the shocksdreaming of the tenderness-the tremble in the hips
of kissing Mary’s lipsdreaming of mercy street
wear your insides out
dreaming of mercy
in your daddy’s arms again
dreaming of mercy street
swear they moved that sign
looking for mercy
in your daddy’s armsmercy, mercy, looking for mercy
mercy, mercy, looking for mercyAnne, with her father is out in the boat
riding the water
riding the waves on the sea
